Welcome to the Jungle!

Using the Jungle Map of balanced program activities as a guideline, Cubs explore new challenges and plan adventures as a Pack. Together, you and your fellow Cubs will navigate the very same jungle that Mowgli roamed in The Jungle Book. The jungle is a fun place to seek out new challenges that you can face either as a Pack or with your Lair.

Cubs are accompanied by Bagheera, Baloo, Hathi and Akela – symbolic representations selected for the Scouters, who guide and support your Pack and Lair through all your adventures. Each area on the map puts the six program areas of Scouting into practice: Environment & Outdoors, Leadership, Active & Healthy Living, Citizenship, Creative Expression and Beliefs & Values. By planning and organizing with fellow Cubs, you can use Trail Cards to explore fun ways of learning the program areas. For example, you may want to visit Council Rock on the map, which calls for a demonstration in leadership. This will encourage you to think of leadership opportunities to achieve, like bringing a friend to your next Scouting meeting and introducing them to your Lair.

The Jungle Map for the Cub Scout Section depicts the six Program Areas of the Canadian Path as places to visit in the jungle, all inspired by the Cubs’ symbolic framework of The Jungle Book.
Cub Scouts
(8 - 10 years of age)
Cubs offers fun adventures for boys and girls ages 8 – 10 allowing them to discover new things and experiences they wouldn’t find elsewhere. We know that young people thrive in safe surroundings. Therefore we are committed to ensuring that Scouting provides the most secure environment possible for learning, development and fun.
Achievements
Personal Achievement Badges are designed to allow youth to explore and expand skills and knowledge in areas that are of particular interest to them.

In The Canadian Path, Personal Achievement Badges are strictly optional. They are not a core part of the program, and they are not an essential part of a youth’s personal progression. Personal Achievement Badges are not a requirement for any Top Section Award. It is recognized that activities outside of Scouting add to youth’s growth in the SPICES and to their personal progression. No one comes to Scouting as an empty vessel.

Working on Personal Achievement Badges allows youth to further develop individual interests and skills and to have that development recognized as part of their growth and progression within The Canadian Path.

Adventures
Cub Scouts take the lead in deciding what program areas they will pursue. Taking charge, the youth will organize ways to achieve these goals, and will collectively reflect on their experience after the goal is met. With support from adult Scouters, this “Plan-Do-Review” method is one of the many ways that the Canadian Path can help youth develop into critical thinkers, extend their personal progression, and encourage active participation in an inclusive team dynamic.
